Objective
Data centers should not exploit people or environment. Corporations should be held accountable for environmental commitments to their shareholders and consumers.
Microsoft
Microsoft Corporation is a global technology company that develops software (including Windows and Office), cloud computing services (Azure), and AI products. It is one of the largest corporations in the world by market capitalization, with annual revenues exceeding $200 billion.
Why this is a target
Microsoft is a direct contributor to TVA's surging data center load through its Azure cloud infrastructure expansion in the southeastern United States, including the TVA service territory. Microsoft has made high-profile public commitments to be 'carbon negative by 2030' and to match 100% of its electricity consumption with zero-carbon energy — commitments it markets aggressively to enterprise customers, governments, and investors. Consumers and businesses that pay a premium for Microsoft's 'sustainable' cloud services, or that have chosen Azure over competitors partly on climate grounds, have a clear basis to demand accountability. Enterprise customers can threaten to shift workloads to competitors, and individual consumers can pressure Microsoft through its Surface, Xbox, and Microsoft 365 subscription products.

Pledges you can make
Bing powers Microsoft's advertising revenue and AI search investments. Switching to DuckDuckGo, Brave Search, or Google reduces Microsoft's search ad revenue and data collection.
Edge is Microsoft's primary consumer data collection and advertising surface. Removing it in favor of Firefox or Brave directly reduces Microsoft's browser market share and associated ad revenue.
Microsoft 365 subscriptions are a core consumer revenue stream. Cancelling and switching to free alternatives like LibreOffice or Google Docs withdraws direct recurring revenue from Microsoft.
Game Pass is one of Microsoft's fastest-growing consumer subscription services. Cancelling removes recurring revenue and signals reduced demand for Microsoft's gaming ecosystem.
OneDrive is bundled with Microsoft 365 and used by millions of consumers. Migrating to Proton Drive, Nextcloud, or another provider reduces Microsoft's cloud storage revenue and data access.
Windows is Microsoft's foundational consumer product and the gateway to its entire ecosystem. Switching to Linux (such as Ubuntu or Fedora) eliminates Microsoft's OS licensing revenue and removes the company's primary consumer data collection platform.
