Objective

Protect Reproductive Data

Meta (Facebook/Instagram)

Meta operates Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, the largest social media platforms in the United States with billions of users. These platforms are primary vectors for the spread of health misinformation.

Why this is a target

Facebook and Instagram are widely used consumer platforms with clear substitutes (Mastodon, Bluesky, Snapchat, TikTok). The Nebraska case created concrete public awareness of the danger. The harm is direct and documented. Consumers can delete accounts or reduce engagement, and advertisers follow user attrition. Strong boycott leverage.

Alternatives

Mastodon (open-source, decentralized social network with no corporate censorship or algorithmic manipulation) BlueSky (decentralized platform with user-controlled content moderation, strong creator community) Tumblr (independent-ish blogging platform popular with educators, writers, and literary communities) Pixelfed (open-source Instagram alternative, part of the Fediverse, community-governed) LinkedIn (professional network with strong educator and author communities, less entertainment-driven) Substack (direct publishing platform supporting writers and educators without algorithmic suppression) Medium (writer-focused platform that supports long-form educational and literary content) WordPress.com (self-publishing platform with strong library and education community presence) Discord (community servers for book clubs, educators, and literary groups — decentralized by design) Nextdoor (local community alternative to Facebook for neighborhood-level organizing) Signal (private group messaging as alternative to Facebook Messenger and Instagram DMs) Element/Matrix (open-source, encrypted messaging and community platform) Your local library's social media presence and community events (direct, no algorithm)

Pledges you can make

I pledge to turn on ad blockers or tracking protection in my browser for meta properties easy

Meta's revenue depends almost entirely on targeted advertising fueled by user data. Blocking trackers and ads starves the data pipeline and reduces the ad revenue Meta can collect from your activity.

I pledge to pause using facebook or instagram for one week easy

Reducing your time on Meta platforms directly lowers ad impression inventory, which is the core unit Meta sells to advertisers. Even short-term usage drops, if widespread, are reflected in engagement metrics that affect ad pricing.

I pledge to delete the facebook and/or instagram app from my phone medium

Deleting the apps reduces mobile ad impressions, cuts off Meta's mobile data collection on your device, and forces any continued use to a less convenient browser — reducing overall engagement and ad revenue tied to your account.

I pledge to cancel my meta verified subscription medium

Meta Verified is a paid subscription tier on Facebook and Instagram. Cancelling removes direct subscription revenue from Meta and signals that consumers reject paying for features that platform access previously included.

I pledge to switch my primary social media activity to an alternative platform hard

Moving your regular posting, messaging, and browsing to alternatives like Mastodon, Bluesky, Pixelfed, or BeReal permanently redirects your attention and ad-impression value away from Meta to competing platforms.

I pledge to permanently delete my facebook and/or instagram account hard

Full account deletion is the strongest consumer signal available — it removes your data, your ad profile, and your network value from Meta's platform entirely, and cannot be reversed without starting over.
